What is a Pedorthist – and How Can They Help You Move Better and Feel Better?
At our physiotherapy clinic, we’re always looking for ways to provide the best possible care for our patients—from head to toe. That’s why we’re proud to work alongside a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, Matt, the foot and lower limb expert who plays a vital role in helping you move better, recover faster, and stay active.
But what exactly is a Pedorthist, and why might you want to see one?
What is a Pedorthist?
A Canadian Certified Pedorthist is a trained specialist in the assessment, design, manufacture, and fitting of custom orthotics and footwear to treat foot and lower limb conditions. They are one of the few healthcare professionals in Canada specifically educated in biomechanics, gait analysis, and footwear fitting and modification.
They don’t just hand you insoles—they take a deep look at how you walk, how your body moves, and how your feet affect the rest of your body. Their goal? To reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent further injury.
Who Can Benefit from Seeing a Pedorthist?
You don’t have to be an athlete or have a serious injury to benefit from a pedorthic assessment. Many of our patients find relief from everyday aches and pains once their foot mechanics are addressed.
You might benefit from seeing a Pedorthist if you experience:
- Plantar fasciitis or heel pain
- Knee, hip, or lower back discomfort (often linked to foot alignment)
- Bunions, hammertoes, or other structural foot conditions
- Pain while standing, walking, or running
- Diabetic foot concerns or pressure points
- Frequent ankle sprains or instability
How Does a Pedorthist Help?
Our Pedorthist works closely with our physiotherapists to ensure your entire treatment plan is cohesive and personalized. Here’s what to expect:
- Gait Analysis: He’ll assess how you walk and stand to identify abnormalities in movement or alignment.
- Footwear Review: He evaluates your shoes and recommend supportive options that work for your lifestyle.
- Custom Orthotics: If needed, he’ll design and fit orthotics that match your feet and movement patterns precisely.
- Ongoing Support: Your orthotics and footwear are monitored and adjusted over time to ensure they continue to support your progress.
Why Choose Our Clinic?
At our clinic, we believe that collaboration between disciplines leads to better outcomes. By integrating pedorthic care with physiotherapy and massage therapy, we can address not just the symptoms—but the root causes of pain or dysfunction.
Whether you’re recovering from injury, looking to prevent one, or simply want to feel better on your feet, our in-house Pedorthist can help guide the way.
